Class Notes: November 2019
Robert S. Karol, MD’ 55 attends Grand Rounds at St. Johns Episcopal Hospital. His son Ian is the chief of Radiology at Bridgeport Hospital and his daughter-in-law an internist. His daughter Rhonda is a dermatologist at the VA. She has a private practice as well. Jeremy, Dr. Karol’s son-in-law is a cardiologist at Yale. Dr. Karol’s granddaughters Jenny is an ophthalmology resident at the University of Pennslyvania, Emily, a Harvard Fellow at Brigham Hospital, and Julia a pre-med student at Yale. Alex, his grandson is a medical student at Mt. Sinai and his brother Zack will be pre-med next year.
Jerome G. Porush, MD’ 55 has been retired for over 18 years. He still keeps up with general medicine and nephrology through journals and the internet. He is still golfing although his handicap is rising rapidly. Dr. Porush is also awaiting his first grandchild!
Michael Blumenfield, MD, 64 and his wife moved from NY to Los Angeles, where two of their children and four grandchildren live. He has a part-time private practice (psychiatry) and writes book and movie reviews at bookrap.net andfilmrap.net. He also has a podcast!
Jeffrey S. Freed, MD’ 70 has been promoted to Clinical Professor at the ICAHN School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and is also the section chief in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Bronx VA Hospital.

Franklin J. Cannizzaro, MD’ 43 has passed away.
George I. Raybin, MD’ 43 has passed away.
Alvin C. Weseley, MD’ 53 died on August 1, 2016, from complications after surgery to repair a broken leg, sustained in a fall at home. He was the beloved husband of Lenore Levine Weseley; the father of Phoebe, Matthew and the late Jonathan Weseley; the brother of Stephen Weseley; the father-in-law of David King; and the grandfather of Carson and Holden King.

Saul B. Wilen, MD’ 70 Dr. Wilen was born on August 1, 1945 and passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019. Saul attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill and State University of New York Downstate Medical Center (SUNY), completing a residency in Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Pulmonary Medicine. Saul served in the US military as a physician at the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX from 1974 -1976, and practiced pulmonary/critical care medicine in private practice in San Antonio for 25 years. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 16th, 2019 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr., Austin, TX 78731.
