SUNY Downstate Announcements:

March 28: College of Medicine students were among 29 teams competing in the Emory Annual Case Competition. This competition allows students to “think critically about global health issues”.

March 29: 200 clinicians and community members attended Harnessing the Power of Plant-Based Nutrition: Overcoming Obstacles to Plant-Based Health in Brooklyn and Beyond, a one day conference held by the College of Medicine and School of Public Health with the office of Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. Kitaw Demissie M.D. Ph.D. Dean of the School of Public Health introduced keynote speaker David L. Katz, M.D MPH, the founding director of Yale University Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center.

April: Clinical Assistant Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Teresa Smith was listed as one of the National Minority Quality Forum’s 40 under 40 leaders in minority health.

April 11: Dr. Moro Salifu, Chairman of the Department of Medicine was featured in New York Amsterdam News’ “Measles Outbreak Causes Health Hysteria”, saying “you can infect a massive number of people in a short period of time if you have measles”.

 

Upcoming Events:

May 17th: The Downstate Pride club will be hosting their first annual Lavender Graduation. It is a celebration for Downstate’s LGBTQ and allied graduates.
