On May 18, 2017, M. Monica Sweeney, MD’75, MPH, President of the Alumni Association for the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate presented the official alumni pins to the Class of 2017, welcoming them into the Alumni Association.  Each student also received an engraved pen compliments of the Alumni Association.  Following the pinning, Dr. Sweeney was able to present the three annual Alumni Awards to members of the Class of 2017.

Jacqueline Tin and Benjamin Johnston were awarded the Alumni Award for outstanding service to the SUNY Downstate Medical Center for their volunteering with the Anne Kastor Brooklyn Free Clinic, mentoring, being peer leaders, and their participation in student activities and the medical student council.

Samuel Chung was awarded the Nathan Spitzer, MD ’25  Honor Achievement Award in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine.  This award was established by Dr. Adrienne Siegel, daughter of Dr. Nathan Spitzer, class of 1925, in memory of her father.  It is presented to a graduating medical student who exhibits excellence in cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine.
