Stephen Michael, MD' 60

has passed away due to complications from Covid-19 on September 25, 2021, in Charleston, SC.


He earned a BA degree from Alfred University in 1956 and an MD degree from the State University of New York - Downstate Medical Center in 1960. In his early career, Steve interned at George Washington University Medical Center, completed an internal medicine residency at Jersey City Medical Center, and then finished his training with a gastroenterology fellowship at the East Orange Veterans Hospital in New Jersey.

Joseph R. Bertino, MD


has passed away due to unknown causes on October 22, 2021, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.


Dr. Bertino helped establish the foundations of modern cancer research, contributing to a deeper understanding of cancer biology, drug metabolism, chemotherapy, and gene amplification. Dr. Bertino was recognized by the American Association for Cancer Research in 2018 with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant fundamental contributions to cancer research and for his collective body of work. His early work led to the first combination of medications that resulted in the cure of patients with lymphoma.
